Member of the Month: Lieke Amkreutz

This month’s inspiring person and Member of the Month is: Lieke Amkreutz. Lieke has been unanimously elected Member of the Month by the CrossFit Heerlen staff team. As Member of the Month she receives eternal fame and the official CrossFit Heerlen coffee mug as a token of appreciation.

Since when have you been a member of CrossFit Heerlen?

Did you exercise before you started CrossFit?
I have practiced various sports including soccer, volleyball, ballroom dancing, street dance, acro-gym, etc.

Why CrossFit Heerlen?
Because this is the best BOX of ZUUDLIMBURG!! It’s big, it’s fun and everyone is fanatic in their own way.

What was your first WOD at CrossFit Heerlen?
I had written this one in my notebook (“die schrijft die blijft”):
AMRAP 12 min.
12 knee raises
8 knee push ups
12 kettlebell swings
96 singles

What goals would you like to achieve in the next six months and how will you do that?
1) Joining the CrossFit Heerlen 100 Club
The best answer is to practice double unders every day. But I don’t know if this will work for me…
2) 1 strict pull up
I’m almost there, but I just can’t get to that last part.
3) Taking that 6kg wallball instead of 4kg in every WOD.

What is your least favorite CrossFit exercise?

And… what’s your favorite CrossFit exercise?
Double Unders! I want to get to 100 and if I can choose another one, the kipping pull-ups because I was amazed that I mastered them so quickly.

Which song (music track) do you prefer to hear during a WOD?
Once I hear a 90’s record I get goosebumps and then the gas tap opens!!
SPICE-GIRLS, 2UNLIMITED, Vengaboys, Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim… these are my guilty plessures!

Which CrossFit achievement are you most proud of?
Kipping pull ups

What is your favorite moment at CrossFit Heerlen?
I can fully enjoy when members achieve PRs or can outdo themselves. Those are my favorite moments.

Do you have other interests besides CrossFit?
Yes, in addition to CrossFit, I am very committed to studying and to become a teacher. Ofcourse it is also nice to sometimes do fun things with family, friends and my gardener… 😉 And if I still have time left, I can sometimes have a creative mood and start drawing, handlettering or tackling other DIY projects.

What is your favorite “cheat meal” and when was the last time you ate it?
Kinder chocolate, they are sooooo delicious. I don’t have a memory of when I ate them for the last time…

What advice do you have for new athletes of CrossFit Heerlen?
WELCOME to the BOX you’ll never want to leave.
