We would like to inform you about the new addition to our team. Maikel has been a very committed member for over 5 years and has put a lot of time and energy into becoming a coach within our community in recent months. You will regularly find him in the box in the role of coach on weekends and on Thursday or Friday evenings. We wish Maikel a lot of fun coaching and thank him for his dedication and shared passion for our members, coaching and CrossFit.

Can you tell us a bit about you and your sporting background?
I spend a year or so training in a soccer team and I used to skateboard. I also went to a regular gym a few times.
What made you want to try CrossFit in the beginning?
My wife Dominique told me it might be fun and she wanted to check it out. So I joined her and we both have been a member since.
What is your favorite aspect of being a CrossFit coach?
Helping people reach a new skill.
As a coach, what is the best advice you can give to early CrossFitters? And what advice would you give to someone who might be interested in trying CrossFit but is too nervous or feels like they need to get into better shape first?
The best advice is just to keep showing up. There are days when the workout did not feel well or when you did not reach the same weigth as you did a few days ago. It happens, some days are not so good, but most are and just showing up on the not so good days makes you stronger. Physically and mentaly.
What was your first CrossFit WOD ever?
Fight gone bad.
What’s your favourite CrossFit WOD?
Cindy and Murph. Basicly all the bodyweigth wods are fun.
And what’s your favourite CrossFit movement/exercise?
Rope climbs and box jumps. I feel like I can do them pretty well and they make me feel strong about myself.
What’s your favourite workout music (genre and/or track)?
Rock & rap.
What are some of your favourite activities outside the box?
Gaming. Board games or videogames.
Finally, what is your ultimate goal in CrossFit and/or at CrossFit Heerlen?
Tough question. I think the main goal is to stay in shape and keep improving others and myself.
