Get to know Yoga Teacher Femke!
Can you tell us a bit about you and your sporting background?
After attending Less Mills group lessons for years, which was really fun, I stopped doing that 3 years ago. After Les Mills I discovered Yoga! I wanted to take better care of my body and I was looking for some peace of mind. And secretly I thought it was a nice challenge to become also more flexible. CrossFit came my way one year after I discovered Yoga. I wanted to get my oldest son to work out! We started CrossFit together. and from that day on, the Yoga / CrossFit combination had started.
What made you want to try Yoga in the beginning?
I wanted to feel my body in a different way than by exercising. After my very first yoga class I felt so relaxed… I never experienced something like it before.
What is your favorite aspect of being a Yoga Teacher?
The favorite aspect of being a Yoga Teacher at CrossFit Heerlen is the chance to share my passion for Yoga with like-minded people. I like to help other people to feel better about themselves and their body through Yoga.
When and how did you find out about CrossFit Heerlen?
I first visited CrossFit Heerlen in August 2019 and have been a member since then. I heard about CrossFit Heerlen at CrossFit Posterus.
As a coach, what is the best advice you can give to early CrossFitters? And what advice would you give to some one who might be interested in trying Functional Yoga but is too nervous or feels like they need to get into better shape first?
The best thing about Yoga is that it’s not about achievements! You do it because you can let go of all pressure and expectations. With every Yoga posture there are options and tools so that everyone can really participate.
As being a CrossFitter also, what was your first CrossFit WOD ever?
Unfortunately I don’t remember that. I do remember that it had pull ups. I was completely fascinated by kipping pull ups from that moment…
What’s your favourite CrossFit WOD?
50-40-30-20-10 Reps For Time
And what’s your favourite CrossFit exercise and what is your favourite Yoga movement?
CrossFit: Toes-to-bars, Handstand Push Ups;
Yoga: Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (balance) and Child’s Pose met blokjes (it feels great to deepen the stretch of your chest and shoulders).
What’s your favourite workout music (genre and/or track) during CrossFit training?
I like somewhat older rap tracks like Party Up and Apple Bottom Jeans.
What are some of your favourite activities outside the box?
I love to travel (near and far) and gain new experiences … but I also enjoy a long walk in the forest and an evening on the couch!
Finally, what is your ultimate goal in CrossFit and/or at CrossFit Heerlen?
To stay fit and have fun!
