The wait is nearly over. Registration for the CrossFit Games Open 2019 has already begun and at CrossFit Heerlen we couldn’t be more excited about it! For newcomers, you might be wondering why you should register or what it even is.
In a nutshell, the CrossFit Open is a series of workouts programmed by CrossFit HQ that runs for five weeks (one workout per week). The event allows any athlete in the world to participate. So everyone, young and old, from the average athlete, beginning CrossFitter to champions like Fraser (Fittest Man on Earth) and Tia-Clair Toomey (Fittest Woman on Earth) will participate in the Open.
Whether you’re in to prove, test or celebrate your fitness with your CrossFit buddies this year, a score is assigned based on judged performance and top athletes move on to the worldwide CrossFit finals, also known as the CrossFit Games. But you may be asking yourself, “Why would I want to do the Open? I have no desire to compete.”
Before we answer that question here some numbers, maybe that makes you feel safer to participate (you will not be the only one):
- In 2016, 324.000 athletes participated in the worldwide CrossFit Open. 2016 was also CrossFit Heerlen’s founding year. At that time we only existed a good month.
- In 2017 there were more than 380.000 participants in the worldwide CrossFit Open. In our box 14-21 members participated in the Open events.
- In 2018, 429.157 athletes completed at least one workout from the worldwide CrossFit Open. At CrossFit Heerlen we had 60 to 68 members participating in the CrossFit Heerlen Open workouts every Saturday. And even more members registered (approx. 80).
WHY SHOULD YOU DO THE CROSSFIT OPEN?
Because you can! There are Rx and Scaled options for each Open WOD and, like always, you do what you’re capable of doing, while pushing your limits. The Open WODs give you a chance to get to know your fellow box members and strengthen the CrossFit community, building a stronger CrossFit Heerlen family. You’ll be cheered on and you’ll cheer on others as you step up to the challenge. You may just learn something about yourself. Maybe you’ll finally PR that clean and jerk or learn that wall balls aren’t as bad as you’d thought. Maybe you’ll see progress you hadn’t expected. You may just do something you didn’t think possible. If you are interested in competing, it’s a great place to start. There’s no friendlier competition than the one against your CrossFit Heerlen buddies.

We would like to see a huge number of people in attendance to create an electric atmosphere in the box and it will give them a chance to see what the CrossFit Heerlen community is all about and what you are doing!

HOW DO I SIGN UP?
All members who wants to join should be registered for the CrossFit Heerlen Open 2019 in order to participate. Deadline to sign up to participate is February 8th at 23:59 hours, which is two weeks prior to the Open. Details on how to sign up can be found on this page (read event description).
