My name is Ramon van der Krogt and I am born and raised in Heerlen. At the age of 8 I started with Kung Fu. I really loved this sport and practised it 14 years. Due to a severe back injury I had to quit. It took me years to recover. In the mean time I started a career as teamleader, manager, and in the end director in customer services. As a side dish I started to coach young professionals and managers. My family started to grow too. I now have four kids, two ladies and two gents. I really love being a dad, it’s the best thing ever happened in my life.
At the age of 36 I became member of the executive board at VGZ health insurances. I did that for 6 years. In the end I wasn’t happy and got health problems. I was overweighted (150kg) and got severe heart problems. Which, long story short, apparantly I was born with. Two and a half years ago I got two surgeries to fix it. And CrossFit was my medicine. After my surgeries I still was heavy obese and I couldn’t walk more than a mile. Slowly, 3 weeks after my final health check, I started CrossFit. It was a rough journey last couple of years: I started my new company during recovery; an academy for entrepreneurs and members of (executive) boards and professionals in health companies. An uncertain future especially due to Corona. And sadly: I lost my dad. But it didn’t keep me from training 4-5 times a week. Slowly losing weight, slowly getting fitter, slowly becoming happy again, trying to be the best dad I can be. I am really grateful for the love and support I had from my family, the medical support and the CrossFit coaches at CrossFit Heerlen. That’s my story. That’s what lead me to what I am now. Now, a few years later, I’m even a CrossFit trainer myself and even more motivated than ever to help others too!
My favorite aspect of being a CrossFit coach is helping people move better, and overcome fears with little steps. And hey! I was really a mess when I started and I still am far from perfect, as an athlete and as a human. But if I am able to become fitter… there is really hope for everyone. I’d love to support you to persevere a good health and happiness whenever you feeling down, lonely or hopeless. I also love to celebrate your successes! CrossFit is a lifestyle. Let me help you make it your lifestyle too.
